My alarm goes off…
... really, really early as I'm a snoozing monster and the worst morning person ever. I grab a peanut & chocolate Nature Valley breakfast bar (if I can get away with eating chocolate for breakfast, I will eat chocolate for breakfast) and my gummy vitamins (if I can get away with eating sweets for breakfast, I will eat sweets for breakfast), faff around for a bit and muster up the energy to do my three-mode-of-transport commute to Splice. The joys of living in West London!

I got my job…

...after a pretty turbulent pandemic experience, I decided after spending most of my career in post production recruitment, that I wanted to jump back into post production but in a more operational role. I wanted to use my skills to manage and nurture new talent in post, whilst also being a central and integral point for the company from facilities and company-wide people perspective.

Over the years, I'd built a pretty wide network within the post production industry and earlier this year reached out to Rich (Richard Folley - Splice MD) who welcomed a conversation about potentially bringing me on board. After a few months and a few chats, I was pleased to join Splice in August.

I’m responsible for…

...the day to day operations of Splice. This covers the client services team, management of all three of Splice's facilities across Old Street and Shoreditch; I am also one of the HR go to's and the main go-to for recruitment and progression of staff.

My typical day…

You'll always see me around in all of our offices, it's very rare I'm ever in one place! I will be coordinating the runners, organising furniture, getting things fixed, checking in on people and making sure Splice is a great working environment for everyone. I do all this with a coffee in hand, spending all morning thinking about what I'm going to have for lunch and all afternoon thinking about what I'm going to have for tea.

The best part of my job…

...are the people! I genuinely enjoy coming to the office every day to work with some of the nicest people around. I get so proud when I see the amazing things we make, knowing how hard everyone has worked and how much the work means to those involved. Being in a position where I can give people the opportunity to join Splice and be a part of that, is probably the best part of my job.

After work…

I'll either be taking my long and treacherous commute home (Central line - need I say more), or I'll be seeing friends in London or out for dinner or drinks with my fellow splicers!

The film/tv show that last inspired me...

9/11: One Day in America. When this came out, I'd only been at Splice for a month and it was the first of Splice's projects I'd seen. I watched it with my mum who remembers 9/11 like it was yesterday and we were both very overwhelmed. I felt such sorrow for those who were affected by the tragedy, and couldn't shake off how awful that day must have been. But at the same time, I was so unbelievably proud of Splice and how beautifully it was made, it showed so much respect and told the story in such a way that every emotion was channelled whilst watching it. Very inspiring!

My Plan B…

...this is a tricky one! My first stint in post was doing work experience at 15 as a runner! But, I suppose it would probably be something to do with building or designing houses or interiors. I love the idea of having a design and seeing it be built and put together and then enjoyed - a bit like television.
